The second Thursday of every month, the usual scent of hops and barley get a salty twist. Fly anglers from all over the Lowcountry gather for Taps & Ties, where pint glasses clink beside piles of synthetic fibers, dumbbell eyes, and enough UV resin to coat a flats skiff.

Hosted in collaboration with Shellring Ale Works, this event brings together a diverse crew of fly fishing fanatics — from seasoned tarpon chasers to first-time tiers curious about what it takes to fool a redfish with a fly.

Vises line the brewery’s long tables, each one spinning up classics and local staples: Drum Beaters, Whistlers, Sliders, and plenty of crab and shrimp patterns that look ready to crawl right off the table. The highlight? Watching tiers swap materials and tying tips over cold

pints of ‘Nautical Light’ and ‘Hop Dr.’. Not into tying? No problem. Plenty of attendees come just to hang out, ask questions, or pick up a few hand-tied flies for their next flats trip.

What makes the night special isn’t just the flies or the beer (though both are excellent) — it is the community. Saltwater anglers are a passionate bunch, and the room is always buzzing with fish stories, destination plans, and DIY rigging hacks.

Don’t miss the event.
