Beaufort in Bloom: First Friday at Bay Street Outfitters

Spring is settling into the Lowcountry, and there’s no better way to experience it than First Friday in downtown Beaufort.

This month’s theme, “Beaufort in Bloom,” is all about celebrating the season – longer days, warmer air, and a downtown that’s coming back to life in full color. It’s one of our favorite times of year, and we’re excited to be part of it.

At Bay Street Outfitters, we’re doing something a little different for this First Friday. We’ve invited a local school’s art club to paint our front window, bringing the “in bloom” theme to life right here at the shop. It’s not just about the finished piece – it’s about the process, the energy, and giving these young artists a space to share what they do.

This First Friday also comes with something new for downtown: Beaufort’s social district. That means you can grab a beverage from a participating restaurant and enjoy it as you walk through downtown, popping into shops, connecting with friends, and taking in everything the evening has to offer. It adds a relaxed, easygoing feel that pairs perfectly with a spring night on Bay Street.

And with May finally here, there’s even more to celebrate – Cobia season is here! These fish start showing up in our inshore waters this time of year, and it’s something we look forward to every spring. To mark the occasion, we’ll have our new “Cobia de Mayo” shirts in the shop – just in time for the start of the run.

Inside the shop, we’ll be open as usual – talking fishing, sharing what’s been happening on the water, and helping you get geared up for the season ahead. Spring is a time of change out there, and it’s a great time to start getting ready for your next adventure.
